On Saturday night we look forward to enter the fascinating world of orient today: Tribal, Oriental Tango, Raqs Sharqi goes Pop & more….

National and international stars of the Oriental Dance scene give an insight into the great variety of shapes of the Oriental Dance today and welcome you to a high-class Gala evening full of varieties, dazzling facets and surprises.

This is a slight change from a well-known slogan … in this case it’s “Take 9”. In celebration of the WoO anniversary, a long-cherished plan was put into action. Asmahan finally achieved her idea of a creative joint-venture on a regional base with fellow dancers like Gauhara & Sibel Nefa (Braunschweig), Anya Saida (Hildesheim), Djihara Naharina (Burgdorf), Fire (Nienburg), Ulli LaBelle, Alexandra & Xenia (Hannover). You will be surprised!

Cihangir (Berlin/Turkey)

Cihangir is definitely an all-round artist – a dancer, singer, actor and author of theatre plays. He paints, writes, sketches comics and designs costumes. His modern, experimental dance style is based on classic Middle Eastern dance (Egyptian and Turkish) but also on other dance forms. He was already featured in various domestic and foreign show productions.

As director of the jomdance qualification, Said El Amir meanwhile became a mentor for many nationally and internationally successful dancers. At the World of Orient 2009 the jomdance-students-company will perform parts from the graduation show in December 2008.

Viva Italia!! For the very first time in Germany – and we are very much looking forward to see this innovative Tribal Fusion ensemble and their debut in our country. This troupe has developed a distinctive style by mixing Contemporary Dance, Middle Eastern Dance and Tribal Style. We are anxious to see them and welcome “Les Soeurs Tribales”, consisting of Francesca Pedretti, Cincia Di Cioccio and Grazia Manetti.

Malek & Pascha (Der Engel & der Pascha)

This group was founded 1992 by Mahmoud Ramadan and has played ever since in various lineups at countless Arabic events all over Germany. Special highlights were for example concerts with Ibo (Ibrahim Tatlises/Turkey), a performance at the World of Orient 2005 and contributions to various events at the Yemen Pavilion in Hannover.

Maya Gaorry (Italien)

Maya Gaorry is a dancer and workshop teacher with an international reputation. She also performed as a guest star of the BDSS show in Milan. Maya is of Italian- Brazilian heritage and prefers to dance Egyptian Style which features her Brazilian passion. She has created her individual style with very fast hip movements, a superb mix of Brazilian samba and Middle Eastern percussion: “Sambalady”. A thrilling dance style you have to watch for yourself!

Selina has put her heart and soul into being a dancer and choreographer for Middle Eastern Dance. Her love for the classic and very elegant Egyptian Style was nourished through well-known teachers like Raqia Hassan or Randa Kemal. But Selina’s presence and commitment to the Middle Eastern Dance does not exclude combinations of Middle Eastern, modern and fantasy dance styles.

The trio, consisting of Anya Naima - one of the best known tribal dancers and teachers in Germany -, Radha and Henriette, was the first Tribal troupe in Northern Germany who presented Tribal Fusion on a big stage. Their performances always showcase the intimacy between the dancers, individual choreographies and with every performance, the troupe tells a story. Consequently, Tribaala will continue to successfully pursue their “Tribal-Art-Dance Theatre” concept in the future.
