Alexandria once was the cultural centre of that world in former times. Here, almost all musical developments and trends of the whole Orient with its artists and instruments used to meet. Much of this time got lost within the course of the last 2200 years.
At this year's exhibition, music ethnologist Rolf Irle from the "Center for World Music" of the University of Hildesheim will present selected and partly very rare instruments from the areas around the Nile, which have survived in Egypt and the neighboured cultural countries despite or perhaps even because of their ancient, oriental roots. Rolf Irle himself will guide through the exhibition on both days. The instruments cannot only be touched, but also played with the help of his instructions. The guided tour is free of charge, all instruments can be photographed. Contact: Mr. Rolf Irle Tel.: 0049-(0)5131/7833 |
